Turmeric contains the active ingredient curcumin which is a powerful antioxidant. The component fights the growth of cancer cells. It also blocks development of amyloid plaque. Turmeric regulates triglycerides and insulin levels which enhances the entire cardiovascular system, boosting heart health. Turmeric, used in culinary levels is an anti-inflammatory. This eliminates the side effects found in steroid drugs. Some people believe that multiple sclerosis is warded off by using this common spice.

The volatile oil thymol which is found in thyme is used in several commercial products as an antimicrobial agent. This component is used for managing staph infections, fighting food poisoning and E.coli organisms. The aromatic flavor can be a benefit improving the digestive process. It is also believed to improve the appearance of your hair and the health of the scalp.

For decades, the use of ginger to settle nausea has been recognized. Digestive processes are enhanced by this spice and the stomach is less likely to develop gastric ulcers. Ginger has other benefits as well, including reducing pain of muscles, menstrual cramps and migraines. The ingredient is beneficial in fighting chronic inflammatory conditions and osteoarthritis.

There are a couple of components found in the spice rosemary which are beneficial. Dating back to ancient Greece, students prepared for major exams by wearing rosemary in their hair. They believed in the power of the spice to improve memory. Carnosic acid is effective again brain-based free radicals. This reduces the risk of strokes and the onset of Alzheimer's symptoms. Carnosol is believed to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Healthy spices are easy to obtain. They can be purchased in supermarkets. Because they taste good and enhance the natural flavor of various foods, you can experiment with them in a variety of ways. Used in culinary creations they have no side effects and are known to be a force in preventing or reducing the symptoms of many diseases and conditions.
